Chef jackets, shirts, trousers and aprons that get their colour from natural pigments. Which is why no two pieces come out quite the same.
What Wastewear is
Colour you can see in the fabric.
Most chef wear is dyed before a single seam goes in. Wastewear does it the other way round: we finish the garment first and dye it whole. That gives the lived-in, slightly faded colour you see on every piece.
01How it works
We dye it afterwards.
In our own factory the garment is finished first: cut, stitched, completed. Only when it is done does it go into the bath.
The colour comes from natural pigments: coffee, berries and the woad plant. No synthetic dye concentrate.

Coffee, berries or woad are reduced into a natural pigment.

Dyed
The whole garment goes into the bath. Seams and stitching take the colour differently from the flat cloth, and you can see it.

02Different every batch
No two pieces exactly alike.
A natural pigment never comes out identical twice. One batch takes deeper than the next, and on seams and hems the colour sets differently.
That is not a flaw but the mark of the line. The photos here are an average; your piece will vary slightly.
